The EE Knight Kindness Club wrapped up the year with our final project: Kindness Rocks! Students painted positive messages onto rocks, then placed them around the town of Elsie to help spread kindness throughout the community.
E. E. Knight Elementary hosted a Career Day on Friday, April 18th. We extend our deepest gratitude to all the incredible volunteers who generously shared their time, talents, and stories with the children of our community. E. E. Knight presenters included the following: Danielle Collins (Michigan State Police), Barbie Kolodica (Bellingar Specialty Meats), Robin Olson (Just Groomin’ LLC), Tony Strachota (C & S Electric), Melissa Jones (OEAS School Nurse), Brooke Ladiski (PiggyTails Hair Salon), Sue Zalecki-Kadlek (AgroLiquid IQ Hub), and Ann Trierweiler and Kathy Steinhorst (Elsie Public Library). Congratulations to Ovid-Elsie High School’s Student of the Week, sophomore Belle...
Nominated by Mr. Migoski, saying, “I am nominating Belle because she is always trying her best in Economics by participating in discussions, asking in-depth questions, giving thorough explanations on topics, and excelling on her assignments. She has been a great student to have in class this school year!” Belle participates in soccer, robotics, the language arts team, Science Olympiad, and chess club. In her free time, she enjoys reading. Belle earned a silver medal at the FIM District Jackson at Columbia Robotics competition and first place with her language arts team. After high school, she plans to pursue a degree in Astronautical Engineering in the hopes of building spacecraft.
We are proud to partner with Michigan State University Extension and welcome Mrs. Candy Thick, a Community Nutrition Instructor based in Shiawassee County, into our Ovid-Elsie Area Schools buildings! Through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Education Program (SNAP-Ed), Mrs. Candy works with our students—especially at Leonard Elementary—sharing valuable lessons on healthy eating, physical activity, and making smart choices on a budget. Congratulations to Ovid-Elsie High School’s Student of the Week, freshman Landen! Landen was nominated by Ms. Blank, saying, “From the very first day of school, Landen stood out to me as a caring and genuinely thoughtful young man. I had a student who was having some emotional issues and Landen respectfully and softly talked to this student in an effort to help calm him down. The student threw some papers around and Landen picked them up and put them back on his desk. Landen takes the time to put chairs up at the end of the day and always says "Hi" in the hallways. He asks if there is anything he can do for me in the classroom. He's got a positive attitude. He's a good student who does his work and will answer questions for others. I've also seen him encourage his football teammates to get their work done.” Landen loves sports, especially football, basketball, wrestling, and track & field. He’s a member of Ovid-Elsie’s drama and choir programs. He’s a Borlaug scholar and won the Most Improved Player award in basketball last season. After graduation, Landen hopes to attend a Division 1 college.
