Keep Calm & Welcome Back to School

Announcements Thursday 08/26/2021

Good morning staff and students!  Welcome to Ovid-Elsie Middle School where we are inspiring life-long learners to achieve their full potential and excel in a changing world.  Today is Thursday August 26th, 2021.  Please stand for the pledge…..

Great work yesterday!  We had a few hiccups but everybody worked together to make it a very successful day.  It was nice to see students in the halls helping each other out.

Any middle school students, grades 6 through 8, who are interested in cross-country sign up in the middle school office. The first practice is Monday, August 30th, 3pm-5pm approx. and will meet in the cafeteria.  You must have a physical turned in in order to participate.

Any 7th or 8th grade girl interested in playing MS basketball, practices begin Monday Aug 30th. Again, make sure to have a physical turned in.

Happy Birthday to everybody who celebrated over the summer and Happy Birthday to Nathan B yesterday.

And now it’s time to get our Science on with the Science Fact of the Week and if you think it’s hot here, just wait until you hear this!

Fact: The deepest gold mine in the world is a 2.5-mile hole in the ground in South Africa.  Because temperatures increase the closer we get to the earth's core, the rock faces in the mine can get as hot as 140º F.  Basically it’s like working in a pizza oven!  An ice/salt-slurry mix is pumped down from the surface and huge fans blow air over the ice just to keep the miners alive.  See don’t you feel better now?!

Have a tremendous Thursday everybody!  Let’s make today RIDICULOUSLY amazing!
