Announcements Tuesday 06/01/2021:

Good morning staff and students!  Welcome to Ovid-Elsie Middle School where we are inspiring life-long learners to achieve their full potential and excel in a changing world.  Today is Tuesday 1st June, 2021.  Please stand for the pledge…..

Student Council members, we are having our end of school celebration after school today.  Please meet at 3pm in the lobby.  Make sure that your ride is going to pick you up at 4:30pm.

Student Council would like to thank you for your generous donations to two charities last week. With the walk-a-thon, you raised $320 for The American Cancer Society & by buying treats at lunch you raised $240 for Prevent Child Abuse America. Thanks so much for your generosity and even those who donated extra!

The Marauder Dude is hiding just two more days...today & Thursday...Mr. Fluharty’s class is in 1st place so far, with Mrs. Hewitt’s cohort in 2nd place. Remember, ice cream treats for the class with the most points by Thursday at 3:00. There is a scoreboard next to the cafeteria.

Happy Birthday today to Manuel C. Have a wonderful birthday Mannie!

For Face-to-Face Students:

A reminder that Chromebooks will not be going home from this point forward and will be handed in during Advisory on Thursday, unless you will be attending Summer School.  These are the same Chromebooks that you will get back in the Fall so it is in your best interest to fill out the checklist that you will be given with any problems that you have, such as missing keys or screen problems.  Chromebooks will be turned off over the summer so even if you do not hand it in, you will not be able to use it and you will not receive a new one in the Fall.

For MVP Students:

Chromebooks are due back Thursday, June 3rd, unless you will be attending Summer School..  We will be accepting Chromebooks at the Middle School Office all day Thursday June 3rd, between the hours of 7:15am and 3:30pm, and Friday June 4th, between the hours of 7:15am and 11am.  If your student will be attending Summer School please keep the device so it can be used at that time.  Your student will be receiving the same Chromebook for their use in the Fall so please be sure to detail any problems in the following checklist which should be filled in at time of drop off or printed out and returned with the Chromebook.  Students can also keep their headphones for home use.
Thank you for your help with device return.

Have a terrific Tuesday everybody and remember as George Eliot once said, “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” .

And as Mrs Holley says, “Keep calm 'cos it’s almost the end of the school year!!!

Summer work opportunities available at Moore Seed Farm for students who turn 14 before July 1st. Visit msfseeds.com for more information and to apply online.

And now it’s time to get our Science on with the Summer Sand Fun Fact of the Week:

Fact 1:  Sand of all sorts is usually made by material breaking down into smaller pieces, however, in water with high concentrations of calcium carbonate the opposite can happen. A tiny particle gets coated over time by the minerals, resulting in a special type of sand grain called an oolith.

Fact 2: According to the Guinness World Records, the tallest sandcastle ever made was constructed in Connecticut, USA, in May 2011. It was 37 ft 10 in tall.

Have a tremendous Thursday everybody!  Let’s make the last full day of the school year RIDICULOUSLY amazing!

Happy Retirement to Mrs. Baumgras as well. She dedicated herself to Ovid-Elsie for 24 years and always put students first! Best wishes for you and your family in the years to come!

This school year has been a rollercoaster of changes.  Every single person in this building has hopped on and gone for a wild ride.  We stayed flexible, navigated the on-again-off-again virtual program and strived to be the best that we could be in every situation.  We were all in it together and as a school OEMS has good reason to be very proud of our performance this year!  Great work everybody!

Now I would like to highlight our student of the year Award recipients:

8th Grade:

Lacey K

Norah W

7th Grade:

Nolan R

Lilian B

6th Grade

Aubrey P

Kohl B

And now it’s time for the last Mrs Holley’s Chuckle Time of the 2020-2021 Pandemic Survival School Year:

Question:  Why didn't the sun go to college?

Answer: Because it already had a million degrees.

And the bonus end of the year bad joke:

Question: Why do some people eat snails?

Answer: Because they just don't like fast food!

Have a fantastic last Friday of the school year everybody!   It looks like today is a great day to have a great day but you know what, tomorrow is an even better day to have a VACATION!!!!
