Question: Who is credited for sewing the first American flag?

Answer: Elizabeth “Betsy” Ross

Class: Mr. Latz class

Note: According to legend, Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag in Philadelphia in 1776. However, historians point out there is no solid documentary evidence to prove this.  According to a story told by her grandson in 1870, George Washington and two other men visited Ross’s upholstery shop in 1776 to commission the flag. She is said to have suggested changing the stars from six points to easier-to-cut five-pointed stars.

Have a marvelous Monday everybody!
