Announcements Monday 09/22/2025:

Good morning staff and students!  Welcome to Ovid-Elsie Middle School where we are inspiring life-long learners to achieve their full potential and excel in a changing world.  Today is Monday, September 22nd, 2025.  Please stand for the pledge…..

Happy Birthday today to Hickory H. Have a wonderful birthday Hickory!

Let’s review the office pass expectations: students must have an office pass to enter the office.  A bathroom pass is not an office pass.  If there is a problem with a locker at passing time you must get an office pass from your teacher in order to receive a tardy pass from the office.

This week we are running our attendance rewards ‘Doughnuts for Attendance’ initiative.  The 1st hour classes with the highest average attendance for the week will receive doughnuts on Monday.  So be here to win!

LUNCH:

Cheeseburger, fries, pears and milk.

And now it’s time for Manic Mystery Monday so pop your thinking caps on and teachers dial 1420 when you have heard the entire question and your class has an answer:

Question: What chemical in leaves breaks down in Autumn and causes the change in leaf color?

Answer: Chlorophyll.

Class: Mrs. Miller

Note: Leaves fall and change color in autumn as chlorophyll breaks down due to reduced sunlight and cooler temperatures, revealing hidden yellow and orange pigments like xanthophyll and beta-carotene, while red and purple colors emerge from trapped sugars and saps forming anthocyanins.

Have a marvelous Monday everybody!

A reminder that middle school students are not permitted in the high school outside of authentic band and performing arts classes.  Do not enter the high school in the morning and walk stealthily down to the MS.  Enter by the MS, which is the correct setting for you.

The 7th grade class is sponsoring a HAT DAY fundraiser to help raise money for our field trip to the State Capitol and Michigan Historical Museum.  The hat day will be on Friday 9/26.  In order to wear a hat for the day, students can pay a meager $1.00 to their 1st hour teachers.  Attention all 1st hour teachers, there is an envelope in your mailbox for the money.

Book Fair is happening Oct 6th-9th.  You will have a chance to check it out sometime next week.

Here's a shoutout to our cross-country team for their grit and determination last week at Byron High School. It was a scorcher out there—86 degrees!—but our Marauders pressed on and delivered some fantastic results. On the girls' side, Bella Stewart took the number two overall spot, Macy Jones came in at number five, and two other of our girls medaled as well. For the boys, John Prewitt brought home a fifth-place finish, while Hunter Howell and Landon Dettloff both hit personal bests. Hopefully we will see some cooler temperatures next week as we run at Chesaning on Tuesday!

LUNCH:

Beef taco, beans, applesauce and milk.

Have a terrific Tuesday everybody and remember it may not be easy but it will definitely be worth it!

For all of our friends who attend Student Challenge on Thursday mornings let’s try and start earlier so that we can end a tad bit earlier and get to class on time.  Go to your locker and straight to the IC as soon as the buses drop you off.  We will start at 7:37am.

Lightening cracked and thunder rolled, but the Marauders brought the storm yesterday in Chesaning! ⚡

Drew “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop” Drew led the charge, with 8 more teammates smashing their personal records. 💪

Shoutout to Ketlei L. and Lauren F. for burning up the course — each cutting over 30 seconds from their times! 🔥

That’s 6 races down and just 5 to go. The big question now… can Bella S. chase down the all-time 8th-grade record this season? 👀 Stay tuned — we believe she can!

We have Student Challenge tomorrow morning in the IC.

LUNCH:

Chicken wings, salad, fruit slushie, banana or lemon bread and milk.

It’s Hump Day and we now have the inspirational quote of the week to get you over the hump:

Quote:

We should be lifting each other up and cheering each other on, not trying to outshine one another.  The sky would be awfully dark with only one star.

Have a wonderful Wednesday everybody!  We’re halfway there so let’s make the rest of this week really count!
