Office of the Superintendent

My name is Dr. Ryan L. Cunningham and I am Superintendent of Schools. This is my twelfth year as superintendent and my 22nd year overall here at Ovid-Elsie. Prior to becoming superintendent I have served the district in a variety of areas such as elementary principal at Leonard Elementary, the Director of the North Community Center, and as a coach (football, boys and girls basketball and softball.)

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from Adrian College and my teaching career began as a fifth grade teacher at Morenci Area Schools. After three years in the classroom, I became the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Morenci High School. While at Morenci I was also actively involved in athletics. It was also during this time that I completed a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University. Later, I would also earn a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University.

Ovid-Elsie Area Schools has become home to me and my family. My wife Heather is a teacher in the District and my children, MacKenzie and Madison, both attended school here. Our family is involved in many extra-curricular activities in the Ovid-Elsie community and we are proud to be Marauders.

Being an educator is not a profession for me – it is a passion! I take the responsibility of Superintendent very seriously and strive to make Ovid-Elsie Area Schools the absolute best that it can be. Through parent and community involvement and forward thinking, Ovid-Elsie has become (and will continue to be) one of the best districts in the State and a leader in global education.

I invite you to check out the exciting teaching and learning that is taking place here everyday and encourage you to get involved. We have some of the most unique programs that a school can offer and we do these things while keeping our focus on "Students First".
