Good Morning staff and students  Welcome to Ovid-Elsie Middle School where we are inspiring life-long learners to achieve their full potential and excel in a changing world. Today is Monday, September 23rd, 2019.  Please stand for the pledge: I pledge allegiance to the flag …

  • For this week’s Kindness Challenge: we’re thinking about EMPATHY, understanding another person’s thoughts and feelings even when they are different from our own.  The first step in empathy is to LISTEN. Don’t allow yourself to wander when someone is telling you how they feel. Really listen to their point of view.

  • Last year’s student council members will be meeting in Mr Fluharty’s room tomorrow at 7:30am.

  • And now it’s time for Manic Mystery Monday, Teachers please call Extension 1420 when you have heard the entire question and remember, NO HELPING:

    • Question: What is the oldest soda that is still being consumed in the US?

    • Answer: Vernor’s

    • Notes: Vernors was created in 1866 by James Vernor, a Detroit pharmacist and was first sold at a soda fountain in his drugstore in Detroit.  Fun fact - some people drink it hot as a cure for belly ache.

Have a marvelous Monday!  And remember, it’s always a great day to have a great day!

  • For this week’s Kindness Challenge: being empathetic, ‘walking in another person’s shoes’ leads to less selfish and more helping behavior.  One way of developing empathy is to talk to people outside of your friend group. Talk to people who maybe don’t share all of your interests.

  • The 8th grade girls basketball team rolled to a 3-0 record last night with a decisive 39-13 win over a physical Montrose Rams team. Coach Belill was proud of the great team effort with a lot of players having to step into a lot of different roles. This win sets up a big road showdown with 3-0 New Lothrop this Wednesday.

  • Every hear of Student Challenge?  It’s hard to explain so come experience it yourself!  Students Challenge is this Thursday at 7:15 before school in the student workroom.  All students and staff are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be provided.

  • The Cross Country team will be released today 2:45pm. Good Luck and GO MARAUDERS!!

Have a terrific Tuesday and remember, it’s always a great day to have a great day!

For this week’s Kindness Challenge: empathy means do not judge people until you have walked in their shoes and seen their world from their eyes.

  • Open gym in the morning will now only be open to the grade listed on the calendar on the door. 6th grade is in the gym tomorrow.  All other grades must walk the hallways.

  • A reminder that hoods must not be worn in school.

  • Gym clothes MUST still meet school clothing requirements.  Volleyball shorts do not meet the length requirement.

  • Our middle school robotics team has practice tonight after school until 4:30.  Please bring your completed applications and fundraiser permission slips if you have not yet turned them in.

  • Our Cross Country team performed well earlier this week on the 1.5-mile course with Talan P finishing 2nd in the league with a time of 9:22.  Gunner M finishing 5th with a 9:40. For the Girls team, Kaia S finished 2nd in the league with a time of 10:32. Tava K finished 7th and Clarissa B gave the Marauders a boost in scoring by finishing 9th in the league.

  • I traveled to New Lothrop last night for a marquis matchup between Our Lady Marauders New Lothrop.  The 7th grade held off a 4th quarter push by New Lothrop to win 30-22. The OE 8th grade girls basketball team stormed into New Lothrop last night and took control of the conference with a 43-24 win over the Hornets to start the early season 4-0. A stingy team defensive effort kept the hornets on the ropes all night - who never mustered up more than 8pts in a quarter. The Lady Marauders continue Monday at home against Lakeville - 7th-grade tips off at 5 PM with 8th grade to follow.

  • We have one student birthday today:  Happy birthday to Kaylie C. Have an amazing day Friend!
