To the Ovid-Elsie Community:
We made it! The 2013-14 school year has finally come to a close as we encountered many additional days this year due to a very tough winter!
We have had so many wonderful success stories in the recent past – back-to-back “Beating the Odds”, back-to-back “Rewards School”, outstanding overall achievement data, athletic championships, and much more. This is all made possible because of the wonderful students and families that we have and their dedication to making O-E the very best.
I would like to wish those who are retiring, or leaving the District, a very fond farewell – Wendy Barrett, Bruce Denovich, John Dwyer, Joanie Gunthorpe, James Fisher, James Ford, Lucy Medina, Gery Rehmann, Kali Root, Mike Shimek, Sandy Stilwell, and Emily Thornburg. These wonderful people will forever be a part of the Marauder family! We wish them all the very best.
You may have seen the recent article in the Lansing State Journal regarding area schools and the budget problems that many districts are facing. It was stated in the article that Ovid-Elsie Area Schools is just one of six districts in the LSJ coverage area that remains fiscally sound. While we do not celebrate the problems of others, we do count our blessings knowing that we can continue to meet the needs of our school community. We have weathered the storm and have remained distanced from the fiscal cliff. This can be attributed to our fiscal conservativeness and a conscientious effort on the part of our Board of Education and Administration. We are very thankful for our community and the support demonstrated.
Again, thank you to the Ovid-Elsie community for your support of the Bond Extension. Our closing is scheduled for the first week of August, so many of the projects that we have been planning for will get put off until the spring of 2015. We will be able to do a few things this summer, but due to the timing of the negotiated sale, it will still take us several months to get everything in order. The summer months will still be busy, as our staff will be working hard to get the buildings and grounds in order for the fall. Just a quick reminder to purchase your Memorial Brick – this is one of the projects we are hoping to get done this fall.
The 2014-15 school year will officially begin for staff on Wednesday, August 26 and students will report back on Tuesday, September 5th! In the meantime, our staff will be busy working on preparing themselves for the future.
Have a wonderful and relaxing summer!
Dr. Ryan L. Cunningham, Superintendent
