Note that the School Aid Supplemental, HB 4295 was substituted today on the House Floor. Unfortunately the At-Risk and Small Class size lifeline so desperately needed was stripped out. The Senate is expected to concur for reasons that are unclear. Please remember that the Senate initially put $30 million in the Bill for At Risk (31a) and $2 million for small class size for this year.
Given our past few years of diminished funding, declining enrollment, charter growth caused revenue shifts, and unexpected costs from the brutal winter – the action in the House seemed particularly perplexing.
For Ovid-Elsie Area Schools this is a net loss of just over $179,000! The actions of our lawmakers are truly disappointing!
